Hotel & Tourist Information around the Event | |
We advise our international guests to stay in either Amsterdam city centre or close to the southern ring (A10/A9/A2). Transport from city center to the ArenA will be around 30 minutes by public transport or taxi.
Otherwise, if you prefer to stay very briefly, you could book a hotel at 'Schiphol Amsterdam Airport', from where it will be about 40 minutes by public transport or taxi. (see 'how to get there' for more info).
HOTELS
Unfortunately NLLUG has not been able to get any fancy hotel deals, as one of the largest conferences this season (IBC) is just taking place that very same week. As a consequence, hotel rates have gone up and availability is limited.
The following 3 hotels may fit your budget and still have a decent quality and/or location.
Please note: we cannot confirm anything on availability. Try booking.com (or others like expedia) to find hotels in the region (about 20 kilometers circle radius).
CitizenM
Current rate per room per night: 99 to 139 EUR
Location: off center but near Amsterdam Zuid railway and subway station.
Remarks: The hotel is a bit odd: super high-tech, very small rooms but quality is okay. Good connections to the NLLUG venue by train and subway. Total journey time: 10 minutes. Also, this is the hotel where the organisation stays... so if you want to have a beer with us on Wednesday night while packing bags, brochures and badges... just say so ;-)

IBIS Amsterdam

Transport within Amsterdam city / Amsterdam suburbs
As an example: how to get from the touristic City Centre to the ArenA:
- Taxis (see below): about 20 minutes (during rush hour maybe 30).
- Public transport: efficient and fast. You will get there within 20-30 min. Ask your hotel reception or check .
- Walking: 1.5 hrs from city center. A windy and not-so touristic walk. NOT recommended.
Taxis in Amsterdam
Please ask your hotel to call a taxi for you, they know the reliable companies better than anybody else. Or call TCA/Taxi Centrale Amsterdam on 020-7777777 (7*7). Out on the streets, look for taxis that have the logo of TCA on their roof. They are reliable, usually polite, and speak both Dutch and some English. We won't go into detail about some other taxi "companies".
Estimated COSTS for a single drive from/to ArenA <-> CityCentre : should be something like 30 euros.
Speaker events
We are arranging a "Speakers dinner" (for speakers only) on the evening of Thursday 9 September in the Amsterdam ArenA (the NLLUG venue), right after the drinks reception. If you want to join please let us know.
